Uyuni salt flats from Argentina
Uyuni Salt flats tour from Argentina
The Uyuni salt flats tour from Argentina is designed for those who wish to visit the Uyuni salt flats from Argentina. This trip starts at the border Villazón (Bolivia) -La Quiaca (Argentina) and ends in Uyuni (we can bring you back to the border with Argentina if you like). Villazón is a village on the Bolivian side of the border with Argentina. The village on the Argentinean side of the border is called La Quiaca.
How to get to La Quiaca? From Buenos Aires you can fly to Salta or Jujuy. Salta is the capital and largest city in the Argentine province of the same name and approx 1500 KM away from Buenos Aires. From Salta you can take a bus to La Quiaca. Salta – La Quiaca is approx 375 KM and the bus drive takes approx 7 – 8.5 hours. From Jujuy it’s a 5 hour bus drive to La Quiaca. If you travel on a larger budget you can also take a taxi from Salta or Jujuy to La Quiaca.
REFERENCE PROGRAM (4 days/3 nights)
Day 1: VILLAZÓN – Uyuni
We pick you up at 10.00 in Villazón (you cross the Bolivian border by yourself). From Villazón we will take you to Uyuni to spend the night there. During this day you will pass by the following places:
– Comunidad de Suipacha
– Entre Ríos
– El Angosto
– La puerta del diablo
– El Valle de los machos
– El cañón del inca
– Tupiza
– La Poronga
– San Miguel
– Huacahuañusca
– Pueblo minero de Atocha
– Dunas de arena
– Train cemetery
You will arrive in Uyuni at approx 17:30.
You will spend the night in a good hotel in Uyuni.
Day 2-4: SALAR DE UYUNI AND EDUARDO AVAROA NATIONAL RESERVE
We have 2 different options. Both options include private transport and overnight stay in private rooms. Option A is with the better hotels in the area (1 night in a salt hotel and 1 night in either the Tayka Desert Hotel or Mallku Cueva Hotel) and option B is with basic hostels. During day 2-4 you will visit Salar de Uyuni, Isla Incahuasi (island with the cacti), the Eduardo Avaroa Reserve, the Salvador Dali Desert, lagoons like Laguna Colorada and Laguna Verde, the geisers and the Polques hot springs. The landscape is amazing and many describe it as surreal.
The trip ends on day 4 in Uyuni. From Uyuni you can travel to La Paz, to Potosi/Sucre or back to Villazon (either by bus or private transport) from where you can cross the border to Argentina again. For more info contact us.
IMPORTANT! Due to weather and road conditions the routes and hotel reservations can sometimes be changed without notice. This is the reason why the itinerary is only for reference, and is not to be taken as an exact itinerary of what this tour implies.
Rainy season: the rainy season is roughly from January to April (subject to change). During this period parts of the Salar may be covered with water. This means that even though it will still be possible to do the trip and to visit the Salar with its beautiful lagoons, as well as the highlights of the trip, the water on the Salar may prevent us from being able to cross it for several hours like you would do during the dry season. You will therefore not be able to get to Isla Incahuasi / Fish Island. When the Salar is covered with a little bit of water it becomes one big mirror which is a beautiful setting for pictures. Many photographers visit the Salar during this rainy season in order to capture beautiful pictures.
